THE STORY OF THE CBF CAMPUS HOUSE IN WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA

Picture of the house Ever since 1994 when our work with collegians began, we've wanted to have a Campus House. We even devised a personal plan by which this might be realized. But the plan failed. Enter the providence of God! Last February a Christian psychiatrist saw one of our posters on a bulletin board at North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA) and contacted us. He told us that his son is a piano major at NCSA and the Lord was directing him to buy a large house a block from the campus which could be used as a Christian ministry. He wanted to know if we were interested. YES, WE WERE VERY INTERESTED! So we began to discuss the details of how to develop a CBF House ministry. After much prayer and consultation, the Lord led us to devise a very workable and mutually beneficial plan. CBF would obtain Christian men to rent four bedrooms and one apartment, and then we could use the downstairs area for all our activities without any cost or other obligation on our part. All five of the men we needed as renters have signed a year's lease. Three of these are students at Piedmont Baptist College.

Although this solid, 15 room, 1918 colonial revival house has much architectural character, it needed a number of repairs and up-grades. Many hands have been involved in such things as painting, installing new faucets, bathroom vanities, light switches and cable lines and moving furniture. The CBF students have enthusiastically helped with painting and clean up. One student did some landscaping work. A group from Salem Baptist Church painted one of the bedrooms. The result of this labor is that now we can enjoy the house for all our activities-Bible studies, meals, parties, etc.

What does having a Campus House mean to the ministry? Here's what a student told us:

"This is soooo neat; it will be great to get away from campus and just hang out with other Christians. I love being able to get off campus, and the house is so close. This is awesome!"
By means of this wonderful provision, our evangelistic outreach will be enhanced, and many more opportunities for group and one-on-one discipleship Bible studies will be afforded. A rec room and a library of good Christian literature, books and videos are being developed to attract students to the things of Christ.
