As with many campuses across the United States, Florida International University is an open mission field to reach the world with the Gospel due to the large number of international students who study here. The University, located in Miami, Florida, provides a rich base of opportunity to share the Good News with American students and with those from over 130 other countries.
Campus Bible Fellowship has been active on the campus for seven years and is currently under the direction of Ken and Marty Taylor. Mike and Sharon Keller recently moved to Miami as well to work among the 32,000 students who attend F. I. U. Seeking opportunities to serve the Lord in the lives of the thousands of students takes effort but is definitely not a chore, as there are more opportunities than four people can adequately pursue.
By giving Gospel literature to those on the campus, we often have the opportunity to further invest in the lives of the students when they express their interest in studying the Bible. One-on-one Bible studies play a key part in assisting the students in their Christian walk, as well as helping those who have never before heard of God’s love for them. Students who come to know Christ through these Bible studies often bring their unsaved friends and family so they can also know God. Literature tables during key times of the year, such as student orientation days, are also effective ways to meet students who want to know more about the Bible. Each Tuesday night a group Bible study is held on the campus where we pray together and study the Word. Students are encouraged to bring their friends for the Bible study and fellowship. Other group activities, both on and off the campus, give the Taylors and the Kellers opportunities to further invest in the lives of the students.
God seems to be opening new avenues of ministry on the campus of F. I. U. with opportunities to reach the university staff as well. As Matthew 9:38 says "Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers into His harvest."
