We have a new co-worker! Sally Borrello. Sally joined Baptist Mid-Missions after graduating from Bob Jones University School of Nursing. God lead her to go to Haiti where she was involved in many aspects of the work there such as, Hospital/Clinic, Ladies ministry, Kids clubs, Vacation Bible School and Camps. In 1998 Sally transferred from Haiti to the CBF ministry. She has worked at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan for the past five years. Pray for Sally’s full support to come in so that she can fully enjoy the ministry here at Florida International University.
Our theme at FIU this semester has been, Be in the world but not of the world. This is based on the study of John chapters 13-17. We have two weekly Bible studies, one on Monday’s at 11.00 and one Tuesday nights at 7:30. Wednesday’s there is a staff prayer time at noon led by one of the CBF staff. God continues to allow us a number of one on one Bible studies. Since the beginning of the year we have seen two people trust Christ and two receive assurance of salvation as a result of one on one Bible studies.
Recently one of the Area Liaison Committee (ALC) churches scheduled a literature table at one of the Miami Dade Community College campuses. One of our staff members was invited to go along. Common responses to the table were. “You can’t do this. Isn’t it against the law?” “You can do this? Wow, I’m glad you’re here!” Imagine the possibilities! They are now scheduling two more days for a literature table.

The highlight of this semester was our trip to the Holy Land…….Experience in Orlando, Fl. Our theme for the CBF Spring Retreat was How we got our English Bible. We invited Dr. Eric Larson, who teaches Bible in the Religion Dept. of FIU, to speak on this topic. He brought slides and a very informative talk on the preservation of the Scriptures.
At the Holy Land Experience we first visited a room that holds a scale model of the city of Jerusalem A.D. 60. The man explained that the model would represent what the city was like at the time of Christ. He then went on to explain what happened to Christ on the night before He was crucified. He clearly presented the Gospel during this presentation.
From there we went to The Scriptorium Center for Biblical Antiquities. This is a guided tour museum where we saw samples of ancient scrolls, papyrus and old Bibles. We heard about those who sacrificed everything to help provide the Bible for everyone. As we came to the end of the exhibit we were challenged again. “What will you do with the Bible?”
After a Middle Eastern/American lunch we visited the Wilderness Tabernacle. We saw how the priest would offer sacrifice, take some of the blood, enter the Holy place and sprinkle the blood on the Ark of the Covenant. It was a good exhibit.
Throughout the day as we walked from exhibit to exhibit we would become part of the “multitude” as Jesus taught or responded to critics. Later that day the Roman soldiers parted the crowd to allow Christ to walk the path to Calvary. This is a powerful Passion Play acted out in the open.
Pray for those who went on this retreat that they will not easily forget the things they heard and saw and the truths that were taught throughout the time of the retreat.
