Stepping out in faith in Cleveland, OH

This year CBF-Cleveland is stepping out in faith, trusting God to make us more effective in reaching, loving and discipling students at Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Institute of Music. We're convinced that as we step out in humble dependence we will see God do a work that, in the natural, would be impossible.

At the end of spring semester, CBF was named 2004 Student Organization of the Year at Cleveland State University. This recognition was the result of being majorly involved in student life at CSU. We participated in student organization fairs, and competed in the Bake-Off and Chili Challenge competitions. (We've got a great recipe for chocolate chunk walnut cookies. Contact us and we'll share it with you.) We did all that stuff because we believed that we couldn't minister to students who didn't know we existed. Our passion for Christ and His message challenged us to interact with the university at large.

Winning the competition was a huge surprise for us. Our chins were on the floor when they announced that we'd won. We are convinced that God gave us that award to put us in a position to be able to reach more students for Christ. One of the things we received for being a Student Organization of the Year is our own office on campus. We're going to use that office to create a place for Christian students to come together, fellowship with one another and get encouragement for their walk with the Lord. We hope it will be a place where many non-Christian students find a relationship with Jesus.

Something new that we are going to do this year is called "Real Life Scenarios". During the lunch hour, we'll gather in the office to share a potluck meal (Five Loaves. Two Fish. One Great Meal.) and watch a five-minute video clip of a real life scenario that a Christian student might face on campus, in the dorm or at work. Then we'll search the Scriptures to find out what advice God has for us for meeting that situation. We'll be making the Bible meet real life.

Every Tuesday night we meet on campus at CSU for our group Bible study. We've got some great Bible teachers lined up to challenge us through the Scriptures. If you want solid Bible teaching that will transform your life, CBF is the place.

A fellowship time, with lots of good food,
follows the Bible study.

What do violinists and biomedical engineers have in common? CBF group Bible study on Friday nights! Students from two diverse schools – Case and Cleveland Institute of Music – find common ground in Christ through CBF. In addition to our regular Bible studies, Case and CIM join with CSU for special events including fall and winter retreats, seminars, ministry opportunities and a whole lot of fun. There's a lot happening with CBF-Cleveland.

To get involved, contact us at CBF-Cleveland@juno.com or call (216) 397-0852 to talk to our CBF staff person, Mary Amesbury.
